T A P E FILM CLUB

The T A P E Film Club bridges the gap between theatrical releases and audiences. Often, films disappear after a theatrical release but that shouldn’t be the case – the T A P E slate is timeless. Instead it should be possible (and easier) for audiences to find and create relevancy, situate and explore themes and ideas, and experience films in varying contexts and spaces.

As part of the initial project we were able to bring Madeleine Hunt-Ehrlich’s THE BALLAD OF SUZANNE CESAIRE; An actress 3-months post-partum attempts to find meaning in the writings of Martinique’s lost literary figure, Suzanne Césaire.

IN THE NGUYEN KITCHEN by Stéphane Ly-Cuong; French-Vietnamese actress Yvonne Nguyen dreams of a successful career in musicals, to the great displeasure of her mother, who would like her to pursue a more serious path.

CAN I GET A WITNESS?; a film by Ann Marie Fleming starring Sandra Oh, is a radical eco thriller set in the not-too-distant future, which imagines a healing planet, but at what price for humanity?

ANIMALIA; in Sofia Alaoui’s sci-fi epic Itto, a young woman from a modest rural background, is slowly adapting to the privileged codes of her husband’s family as aliens land in Morocco.

We were able to release these films thanks to the support from the BFI Audience Fund.
