Reppin’ could-be-cult classics.
T A P E is a UK-based film company working across exhibition and distribution to platform the works of global majority filmmakers. Cross-curatorial, but firmly rooted in film, T A P E creates ties with art, music, talks and more, to bring exciting and subversive filmmaking to new and established audiences. With a focus on representation, identity and heritage, we champion the forgotten could-be cult films of the festival circuit.

Founded in 2015 by Angela Moneke and Isra Al Kassi, who met through the Barbican Young Programmers scheme, T A P E launched as a response to the lack of representation on screen, and a desire to highlight the sheer variety of under-served films out there. Our first event was a the 1929 THE WILD PARTY by Dorothy Arzner screened in a community café in Peckham in 2016, since then T A P E’s work has expanded to include; guest curation, production, panel hosting, commissioning content, workshop development and facilitation.
After years of supporting release campaigns of films we were wildly passionate about we moved into distribution in 2022 with Miryam Charles’ feature debut Cette Maison. Since then we have built a slate of unmissable cinema including short films, restorations, archive and festival favourites.
We hope to build on our mission of creating collaborative, creative spaces for audiences and filmmakers to connect. Our aim is to continue to demystify the industry for global majority filmmakers and to offer transparency by sharing knowledge and access. We are committed to leveraging our position and access to carve out a space for filmmakers to tell their stories truthfully. Staunchly reppin’ could-be-cult classics across the UK and Ireland.
